Frequently Asked Questions
A Hakkebrett is a Norwegian table-top zither, closely related to the hammered dulcimer. It’s a stringed instrument played by striking its strings with small hammers or mallets. Wrongtools’ Hakkebrett for Kontaktis a sampled version, where two of these has been combined in one sampler instrument.
It is a deep sampled hammered zither library recorded with the finest equipment and mics. Captured with an extra focus on the high end spectrum. And softer hammering, with mics placed really close to the strings
It has a distinct clear and close sound. And it is not trying to fit in anywhere, but rather bring a special tight sound to your palette.
Hakkebrett delivers a one-of-a-kind resonant bright sound. As well as a cool bottom-end on the low strings. The two table-top zithers can be blended to taste from the user-interface.
Instead of hammering with traditional zither hammer, we used thin long wooden sticks. A playing technique that is probably only possible in a sample library because of the small distance between the strings.
We found that when struck with thin mallets, the zither strings produced an unusual, distinct sound, and had long resonance.
Combined with close-mics, the sound is sparkling and full of bright overtones and treble. (which is something we have missed in other zither libraries)
Yes, Hakkebrett comes equipped with powerful sound-shaping tools within the Kontakt interface.
