“a beautiful new instrument has emerged”

“The sound is superb and the performances are very expressive.

“.. my favourite patch in Osmosis is the short brushed articulations!
This one sounds especially lively to my ears, it’s delicate and has a lot of attitude. It’s a type of short articulation that seems very rare in the sample world, between staccato and portato.”

FAQ :

Frequently Asked Questions

Osmosis –  is a Kontakt cello ensemble library designed for cinematic, evolving string textures. It blends improvisational performance, multi-mic techniques, and a powerful scripting engine to shape rich, lifelike timbral movement.

We have worked with these musicians on several occasions, and has developed and experimented with how to create something that we find inspiring. So it’s a personal kaleidoscope of articulations that we personally have been searching for, and use in our music.

Composing with sampler instruments is more than just triggering sounds; it’s about uncovering the character and possibilities within each patch, all while responding to the musical moment as it unfolds. The sounds of these cellos can lead you onto paths that you didn’t know existed in your music.

When you first load up KONTAKT with OSMOSIS, the question will be: How do you get to know it?

If you stick to a step-by-step approach, you’ll learn the mechanics, sure—but that’s just the surface. On the other hand, if you dive in and start improvising, you’ll discover not just how the instrument works, but what it can do. And what are the strengths of each patch.

The way you play becomes intertwined with the music the instrument naturally wants to create.

It’s like a conversation where both you and the sampler-instrument have a say. The sounds suggests a path, you respond, and together, you shape the music.

Rather than mimicking orchestral realism, Osmosis embraces usable unusual lively contemporary cello timbres. Its “pendulum” patches fade between articulations, while its Sculpturing Engine lets you warp and morph sounds—creating evolving drones, pulsing textures, and cinematic ambiences.

The core reason is to ensure optimal gain staging and ample headroom within your digital audio workstation. When individual patches come in at a lower default level, it prevents accidental clipping (digital distortion) on your bus sends and master output, particularly when you’re layering many instruments or adding processing. This approach gives you full control to blend our sounds seamlessly into your mix without fighting “hot” signals.

Essentially, we provide you with a clean, unclipped starting point, allowing you to easily adjust levels to suit your specific project without compromising audio integrity.

Patches are super for layering with other instruments and sounds, for adding liveliness, color and personality. Should be perfect for dystopian soundtracks, modern dramas, and sound design for games. But also things that need an organic touch.  A skilled composer will find joy in tweaking and blending stuff into whatever really.

Absolutely. Layer Osmosis with traditional string libraries like Cinematic Studio or Spitfire libraries for a rich sound, or pair it with synths and drones for creative scoring.  The multiple mic-signals easily lets you mix the cellos so that it blends well.
