Fingerimba is a cinematic Kontakt library built around a beautifully sampled sansula and a homemade kalimba with tines mounted onto a piano’s resonating plate — captured at a whisper, where the tones bloom with warmth and clarity.

We recorded everything at the softest possible dynamic threshold. Resulting in long, glassy sustains with rich harmonics and a gentle, breathing presence. Truly nice sounds!

Alongside the main instrument are a series of companion patches — including below-and-above plucks, soft strums, subtle percussive articulations, and scattered textural performances. Some patches are precisely what you’d expect from a kalimba library. Others… not so much.

We opted to record the instruments at a comfortably-soft dynamic, which we felt produced the warmest notes.

WOODCYCLE

In addition to different plucks from below and above, simple percs and strums, there are patches with textural tickling scattered long variations. The result is a poetic river-like flow when holding a chord.

The user interface is intuitive and easy to play with. On the left side you have the usual suspects : level, attack and release, reverb, delay, lfo, pitch vibrato and lowpass filter. Mixer tracks on the right side, with purge buttons and routing opportunities.
